Whose Dog Art Thou?

(the name is a quote from an old English nursery-rhyme)

1. My lady turned me down
She threw me out of the house
She said she was displeased
And wanted me to leave
She needed me no more
And so I had to go
I walked into the night
She locked the door behind

Ch.: Bow-wow, bow-wow,
Whose dog art thou?
I've lost my home
I am no-body's now

2. I wander all the day
I just can't go away
And creeping like a mouse
I peep into my house
But if I catch her eye
She frowns and turns aside
I've seen her pat the head
Of another pet instead

Chorus

3. I'll see her in the street
I'll fall before her feet
I'll smile and kiss her hand
I'll be her dog again
Or better I'll go by
Not even lift my eyes
And she will plainly see
I'm nobody's, I'm free

Ch.: Bow-wow, bow-wow,
Whose dog art thou?
I've left my home
I am no-body's now
