The One I Would Care For

1. Every day I walk along the streets and roads
Ride the bus and mount the stairs and roam about
Walking, treading on the grass and going home
Wand'ring here and there, and stopping for the rest
But in all my ways I've never met the one,
the one I would care for

2. Every day I hear the deafening city noise
Crying babies, barking dogs and roaring cars
Listen to the things my friend is telling me
The radio is pouring songs and news on me
But there's not a single whisper from the one,
the one I would care for

3. Every day I touch and feel the things around
Write my letters, stroke my cat and pick the flowers
Push the doors and comb my hair and scratch my head
Smoke my cigarette and shake hands with my friends
But the things I touch are not at all the one,
the one I would care for

4. Every day I see the dawning morning skies
Look around myself to find my clothes and shoes
Read the papers, watch the shows, observe the stars
Millions of reflections fill my tired eyes
But I've never seen the dear dear one,
the one I would care for
